When You Should And When You Shouldn’t Take Advice
Hello it’s Neil Ball your online marketing coach from www.WorkWithNeilBall.com.
I am going to talk about when you should and shouldn’t take advice from people. At the end of this video I have some training for you which is personal development training and internet marketing training. When you are in the presence of someone who knows things that you don’t know, about things that you should know about there are three responses that you can have. First you can try to convince the person that you are a big shot yourself at whatever the person is an expert at. You can make up stories about what a big shot you are, and try to convince them that you are at their level. Obviously, I am not in any way suggesting you should do this because in reality you will just make a fool of yourself – Their BS Detector will activate, and they will just know that you are full of BS. And more importantly for you it could be to your detriment if you don’t take advantage of this fortunate position of speaking to someone that can assist you. I will explain this more in my third point.
Second, you can just do and say nothing and just not acknowledge the other persons superior knowledge. Thirdly you can think to yourself that this person has knowledge that would be useful for you to know, and you can start learning from them. You should Listen to them, ask questions, take notes and follow their advice. For example, if you are an internet marketer and you are struggling to make money online and you are listening to someone who is making $30,000 a month, then clearly this person knows something that you don’t know. The reason that you should listen and follow their advice is because you should realise that if you can learn from people who have produced the results, that you have not produced, and you can learn from them then you can start to produce extraordinary results like them as well. By doing this you can look at where you are succeeding, and where you are struggling, and you can realise what you need to do more of, and what you need to do less of, or stop all together. You will also discover things that you should be doing that you aren’t doing, and you will also discover things that you are doing that you could be doing slightly differently to get much better results.
So who are you listening too in your life? Is the person that you are currently listening to getting the results that you want in your life? Or is the person that you are listening to struggling in their life to get any results. Are they even doing what you are trying to do? If you are listening to someone who isn’t getting the results that you want and you are focusing on what they tell you to do, and you are doing the things that they are telling you to do, if they are also struggling, is it any wonder that you are not getting the results that you want? This can apply to everything in life. Who are you listening to? Who are you listening to in your business? Who are you listening to for your marriage or relationship advice? Who are you listening to for your finances? Who are you listening to in any aspect of your life? Who are you listening to?
Often the people who offer the most advice know the least. The people who know everything know nothing. Relatives may offer you advice on business, on relationships, on marriage, on finance etc. But if these people don’t have success in whatever they are offering advice on why would you listen to them. If you want to be an entrepreneur and some that you know is advising you on this when they haven’t done it themselves then why would you listen to them? Why would you take relationship advice from someone who can’t hold down a relationship? Why would you take financial advice from someone who hasn’t had any financial success themselves? Often relatives are far too willing to offer advice on things that they are in no position to advise anyone on.
You can learn from knocks, or you can learn from a mentor or expert but don’t ask advice from family or friends when they haven’t been successful in whatever it is you need advice on. Often as a result of advice from people who should never have been listened to in the first place, many people will suppress their dreams and not pursue them. If you haven’t found the success that you know that you deserve in life. Then I would suggest that you consider that if your best thinking up to now has not got you to where you want to, then isn’t it time that you upgraded your thinking. You may not be where you want to be, and you may feel stuck and unable to improve your current position. But the truth is, that you are also stuck where you are because of your best thinking.
